To shape the flat sheet metal variety of operations are performed on it.
In sheet metal working, the sheet metal is placed between punch and die. Punch is pressed against the sheet metal. Initially there is plastic deformation at the edge. When the plastic deformation propagates, crack occurs at the cutting edge. The crack propagates further to cut the material apart.
