Toolsday Compact Router Review. They go by multiple names, trim router, compact router, laminate router, and today we put some of the most popular brands head to head to see which ones are worthy of purchase. I used and abused these routers and did a complete overview of some of the most important factors that should affect your buying decision. We spent a ton of time with each router and the results definitely surprised me. I make my high level recommendation at the end. As always, I have never and will never take money for paid reviews. These are tools I have purchased and tested extensively. Let me know what you’d like to see next. Thanks for watching! Please like, comment and subscribe. Cheers!

Pablo Alvarez says:

That one is garbage, you said, and you earned a like and a suscribe just like that…

Mark says:

I picked up the ryobi because of the platform. I do 3/4 dados with it in one pass pretty often. No issues! Wondering if yours had an issue.

Jack of All Trades says:

So I bought the Ryobi router because I'm a Ryobi fan. I was very disappointed in it's quality and performance. It's not built for serious use. It's not cased in a full metal body like the competition. So when this gets hot it melts it's own plastic body casing. Once it melts it's own casing the motor internally destroys itself because it's no longer mounted to anything. So the Ryobi router is useless for almost 100% of all applications. Returned it the same day to exchange it for another and the exact same thing happened after ten minutes of use. I ended up getting a refund and bought a cheap china model on Amazon. Been happy since.

Craig Nichols says:

Is the bitbitz discount only for certain bits? I tried it and it didn’t work for their round over bit set..

Ryan Simpson says:

Good job on this video. I'm about to smash the like button. Your format for comparison and commentary is spot on. I don't need a router I'm just thinking about it as maybe an option for my side interest in woodworking.

Chris Webster says:

Great comparison. Hope you consider doing a similar comparison for standard size routers soon. I am very curious how the new 12a Skil holds up against the like of Bosch, Dewalt, and Makita.

Scot Sample says:

You told me what I wanted to hear, dewalt I shall get.
Also love your humor, that’s definitely what she said

Old Codger says:

Dust collection is important for me, so including that in a future video would be of interest. Using a Festool track in the video is a hint that you might have some Festool gear, where the focus is on dust collection.

Troy Lee says:

Dewalt 345.11052 USD in Holland 😞

Mario R Rodriguez says:

Happy with my Makita, I add on line dust collector for just $9 smooth and love the adjustment type.

Caleb Carr says:

I have the Mikita battery powered router and use it almost exclusively with the plunge base which takes the adjustment issue out of play. It has replaced my larger festoon router for 99 percent of job site tasks. I’m a cabinet maker and trimming doors on kitchens has become much easier and fast now.

Thad Gillespie says:

Awesome video! This is the exact question I have had for a while. Now I know which one I'll be getting. And I won't be wondering if I got the right one.

Warren Smith says:

Sorry I disagree with you. I've owned the Bosch(2) & the Makita. Both have had problems with holding the bit in place. Since I bought the Ryobi, the other palm routers have found other homes.

Erin Hall Makes says:

I really appreciate this. I was looking at Makita based on another YouTubers use but was also looking at Bosch but now I am going to check out DeWalt. I wonder what their cordless models are like.

woody woods says:

if you drop your Ryobi router when removing the base. Learn how to use the tool before you knock it.
I use one in a production settings for a commercial cabinet shop I have two set up for laminate tops had them for almost two years not one problem never dropped them when removing the base. I can change the bit under 30 seconds and that's without dropping the base thumblina.
The adjustment stay In place throughout the day. Learn how to use a router before reviewing. Drop the base while removing the base oh come on.

Hugh Fitzpatrick says:

Two things… firstly, there is nothing wrong with the ryobi router. I use the cordless ryobi and makita routers for all sorts of different things all the time, meaning always changing bits and changing depth of cuts, yet I've never had a router bit slip. Instead of blaming the tool, correct fit the cutter in the first place!
Secondly maybe unplug / remove the battery from ANY tool before performing a blade change! Do you want to lose fingers??

Bellscustomwoodworking says:

I use the ryobi router daily without any issues .

jotacalvo says:

You also want to slow the rpms when cutting metal.

Patrick Cummiskey says:

DeWalt. Next question.

Mike Jones says:

How often do you have to dump all the sawdust out of that apron?

BigRed RacingDog says:

I have the opposite problem with my Ryobi. It holds the bit so tight it's hard to get it out.

This video gets a thumbs down for not testing my router my granddaddy passed down from the 1980.

Pierre Michael says:

Thank you, very helpful video. You've got potential for Hollywood 🙂 good job.
